Inspiration time is any time. With the winter months come more ways to engage in my warm studio for the creative process.
As well as teaching my regular Tuesday class my last year was busy with workshops, both in watercolour and mixed media. I have travelled to many groups in the region and others have come to my studio. This year I am planning work days in print making for beginners. I have been guest artist at a number of art shows. The school murals I have been working on should come together by the end of term. Ten students of mine mounted an exhibition of their artwork in our garden. A harpist provided music on opening day which proved very successful with more than 200 people attending and good sales. I am very proud of their continuing creativity. As well, I fitted in an overseas visit.
I exhibited at the gallery Art Moment in Bondi Beach, Sydney last December and will be showing there again later this year. I also had work displayed at a gallery at The Rock.
In our bird-friendly country garden the resident kookaburra family continue to provide much laughter, a greeting first thing in the morning and again at day's end. Tiny blue wrens and thornbills playfully add charm around the house. Beautiful superb parrots have increased in numbers and nested in the river gums outside my studio. Tree creepers, though threatened, are still here on our pad. Colourful azure kingfishers have been busy too and the red breasted and red capped robins returned for winter. The renewed health of the environment has provided our billabong a full level of water with waterbirds returning and a myriad of frogs have gathered to vocalize. We are so privileged, and energised by this.
Hopefully my website stirs your imagination to new thoughts and ideas. I am a creative free spirit loving real things, imaginary things, all providing me with things I need to get down. I have a deep affinity with the natural world, love of birds, animals, the land and environment...from the big, picture to the tiny exquisite dragon flies and ladybirds. Most of my inspiration is sourced from the bush. Music is also a great love of mine; I hope that my art pieces are complementary to music pieces, having good composition, being rhythmical, colourful, attentive to tonal values and harmonies, and show light and shade etc. Music and art are so closely related and each full of its own wonder and joy.
